Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is broadly defined as a disease state characterized by airflow limitation that is not fully reversible. According to the American Lung Association (2003) 10.7 million U. S. adults were estimated to have COPD which includes chronic bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema. The primary causes of COPD are:
